NFC West
With the 55th pick overall (2nd round) the Seahawks chose CB Josh Wilson. Wilson must be a guy they really liked because most of the experts felt this was a bit higher than Wilson should have gone. Another piece of evidence that the Seahawks think highly of Wilson was the recent release of Kelly Herndon. For a team that needed to ADD depth to the defensive backfield, they really must like Wilson and second year player Kelly Jennings in order to subtract from their depth at a crucial position. Herndon can’t be that bad because the Titans immediately scooped him up to compete for the starting job opposite Nick Harper. EFS slant: Wilson is probably still just a nice practice squad guy to develop for future depth.
The Seahawks spent their 3rd rounder (85 overall) on Brandon Mebane, a DT. Since no one in EFS cares about a 3rd round DT, I will move one.
The first of their 4th rounders was spent on a pass rushing DE out of Miami, Baraka Atkins. The coaches think this guy could eventually be a contributor and he has shown some promise early on in OTAs. He does have a few red flags though. He failed to really buy into the scheme at Miami and really wasn’t one of the coaches favorite guys. He has also spent some time at both DT and NT, so a move inside on the DL could hurt his prospects. EFS Slant: Keep an eye on this guy and possibly grab him for your PS for a DE option down the road.
With their second 4th rounder the ‘Hawks took Mansfield Wrotto an OG out of Georgia Tech. He is a player that had a decent career at Tech and could develop into a decent OG for Seattle down the road. Right now he doesn’t seem to have any prospects of starting since the team re-signed Chris Gray for one more year. No reason to even bother with this guy yet since his prospects of starting are quite low, but keep an eye out for him down the road for a PS spot, probably starting next summer.
Best of the rest beyond round 4:
Courtney Taylor- a big strong WR who has impressed coaches so far in OTAs. He consistently showed the ability at Auburn to go up and get the ball in crowds. Decent quickness but not the top end speed most teams would like to see. He is a guy who played a lot at Auburn and could surprise some people in Seattle. Once again, probably a wait and see guy.
