NFC East
With their first pick the ‘skins took the highly touted safety out of LSU Laron Landry. Having seen this guy wreak havoc in the SEC for 4 years I am supremely confident he will transfer well to the NFL. It takes some talent to start 4 years under two coaching regimes at LSU, so the kid has skills. He is a fierce tackler whose only weakness MAY be his coverage ability. This is an interesting point since the Redskins plan on pairing him with Sean Taylor, who is a very similar player. Landry should be guaranteed tackles and possibly some pass deflections and maybe an interception or two as a rookie. He will start from day one and will only get better as he adjusts to the NFL. EFS slant: If you spent the top-10 pick it took to land this guy he should be all that was advertised as long as he can stay on the field (whether or not a safety is worth a top-10 pick is the real question though, right?)
The unfortunate thing for the ‘skins was that their next pick came in round 5.
Best of the rest beyond round 4:
HB Blades seems to be a hot prospect in EFS leagues right now. I have seen a few small bidding wars over his services in some of my leagues. Blades is an IB out of Pitt who had a decent college career with three consecutive all Big-East teams (it is the Big-East though…) and was Big-East defensive player of the year last year. Blades is the nephew of former NFLers Brian and Al Blades. Overall Blades is not a burner speed-wise but he is smart and knows the game. His main problem is that he walks into a crowded field at LB in Washington. He will have to compete with former starter LeMar Marshall for the backup spot behind newcomer London Fletcher. EFS spin: I don’t see all of the hype. The guy had a good college career in a below average league and is in a crowded spot in Washington. A borderline PS guy for now.
