Fantasy QB's for 2007 and Beyond

Fantasy QB’s for 2007 and Beyond:

Tier 1

Jamarcus Russell (OAK): This is the only Tier 1 player in my estimation. This kid seems to be the only to have it. He has a gun for an arm, he can get out of the pocket and run, he can read a defense, and he seems to so far have the ability to take over the huddle. Redraft leagues will not be the place for Russell. This year will be particularly tough on him as the OL is really not that good and he will not have much time to get in a rhythm.

Tier 2

Brady Quinn (CLE): There is a lot of difference in the ranking of this young man. I think he will be fine after a year or two on the bench but in CLE that might not be possible. Many experts doubt him and his talents. With the annual upgrade at the OL in CLE the expectations are high again but last year it was also high and it never panned out to be that great. If Brady is thrown into the fire early and the OL can gel there is a good chance for him to learn on the job but I think a year on the pine would do him better. It will be easier for the CLE brass to sit him as he wasn’t a TOP 10 pick and his bonus and salary won’t be that hard to eat for a year.

Tier 3

Kevin Kolb (PHI): A four year starter in college and his stock was elevating right before the draft. Teams don’t usually draft projects in the 2nd round so this could be a sign of the future in PHI. McNabb has recently mentioned a fondness for his home town of Chicago and his willingness to play. I never feel as though the city of PHI has really grown on Donovan and his recent injuries have done two things as of late. One the shown that he is injury prone and second that this team can win with someone (even Jeff Garcia). I think Kolb we be given the job after the 2007 season and with another untimely injury maybe as early as 2007.

Drew Stanton (DET): Drew Stanton stayed at home in MICH and the early reports haven’t been outstanding. Some view him as the QB of the future in DET. I think he’s more of a project but Mike Martz put his stamp of approval on him so maybe he sees a little bit of a young Marc Bulger in him. Martz plucked Bulger out of mediocrity in WV when he drafted him in the 6th round in 2001 (ala Tom Brady). Only time will tell.

John Beck (MIA): Cameron sees enough in Beck to draft him in the 2nd round. But with newly signed Trent Green and another young QB in Cleo Lemon in front of him he’s going to need to shine to be able to get in the drivers seat but have enough talent to be talked about. I think he’s got the head on his shoulders to play the game but he’s got some talent in front of him young and old to contend with this year and next.
