Houston Texans finish 8-8...what does the future hold?

For the first time in their 6 year history the Houston Texans do not have a losing record at the end of the season. An 8-8 record is not a winning record either but it represents a huge step in the right direction. Based upon this seasons results what do the Texans need to do to get into the Playoffs in 2008 and beyond?

A. Offense

1. Find a stud RB, one with some shake and bake, along with breakaway speed, that is a threat which defenses will have to plan for. That player is NOT on this roster at this time! Look for Ahman Green to be let go in offseason.

2. Find a young LT that can be groomed to guard the QB's blind side, or sign a top notch guy in the Offseason.

3. Keep this WR corps together they have become a strength on this team.

4. Build depth on the OL through the draft or Free Agency.

B. Defense

1. A lot of money is already invested in the Defensive Line, but more athletic players are needed to team with A Okoye and M Williams.

2. This team really needs a fast OLB than can rush the QB.

3. The injury to CB D Robinson means this team will probably search for another CB.

4. The safety situation needs to be addressed- they need guys with at least some coverage ability to come in and compete.

The team showed great improvement over previous seasons, now they just need to build on that and keep moving forward.

The Texans had one of the worst, if not worst, records in the NFL in terms of turnovers on offense. If I am not mistaken I read somewhere that their turnovers resulted in more points for their opponents than any other team in NFL. So a prime area of concern for Gary Kubiak and his staff will be cutting down on turnovers on offense next season.

Lastly, they play in arguably the toughest division in the NFL-it sent 3 teams to the Playoffs! This season the Texans were 1-5 in the Division, to move forward they need to get to at least 3-3 in the Division.
