2008 Seattle Seahawks Draft Review:

Round 1, Pick 28 (28) (From Cowboys) - Lawrence Jackson, DE, Southern Cal – The team was in need of a edge rusher that can get to the passer as well as stop the run. At USC he averaged 48 tackles 13 for loss and 8 sacks. An amazing athlete that does everything good not great. He has tremendous upside and will be in direction competition with Daryl Tapp for playing time.

Round 2, Pick 7 (38) (From Ravens) - John Carlson, TE, Notre Dame – Carlson will compete immediately for the starters job with only Heller and Putzier on the depth chart for the Hawks. Carlson is more of a receiving TE than a blocker but can hold his own. But from what I’ve read he’ll be more than willing to learn and work at his craft.

Round 4, Pick 22 (121) - Red Bryant, DT, Texas A&M - At 6’4” 318 Bryant can be a tremendous run stuffer is he can continue he rebound from an ACL injury he had a few years ago. He will compete against last year’s 3rd round DT Brandon Mebane

Round 5, Pick 28 (163) (From Cowboys) - Owen Schmitt, FB, West Virginia – Mack Strong’s replacement. Weaver is currently the FB but is more geared towards Special Teams. Schmitt ran for 1063 yards in his rookie year at UV but after missing his whole sophomore season he came back as a FB.

Round 6, Pick 23 (189) (From Titans) - Tyler Schmitt, LS, San Diego State – Special Teamer period

Round 7, Pick 26 (233) (From Jaguars) - Justin Forsett, RB, California - Change of pace 3rd down type.

Round 7, Pick 28 (235) (From Cowboys) - Brandon Coutu, K, Georgia – Looking for Josh Brown’s replacement and adding Coutu to the battle with Olindo Mare.
