NFL Draft
MOCK NFL DRAFT FEBRUARY 2006
By Alex "Blue" Salomon
Feb 16, 2006, 20:31

1.1 Titans: Reggie Bush. The deal was brokered on draft day but had been rumored for the past 5 days. After renegotiating a more palatable deal with McNair and giving up a 3rd in 2006 and 1st and 3rd in 2007, Jeff Fisher is happy with his QB situation and finally gets the top playmaker at RB he’s been craving for… ever. No more grinding it: let’s be flashy!

1.2 Nawlins: It was over months and months ago, when Payton was made headcoach and Brooks was sent to Baltimore. Matt Leinart will have 10 years to become the top QB for the Los Angeles Saints.

1.3 Houston: Kubiak works wonders with OLs and RBs. OL was needed here and Ferguson is 2006’s version of Gallery: a top protector for Carr. Davis is good enough. Johnson is too. 2nd rder will be used for another WR. 3rd pick from the Titans on another OL.

1.4 It was hectic, it was crazy, it was bargaining nightmare… but the Packers traded Aaron Rodgers and their 1.5 to the Jets for the rights to Vince Young. Who would have thought? But since Favre’s retirement on March 26, the Packers wanted somebody who would throw the ball, fill the stadium and sell shirts.

1.5 The Jets were happy to grab an insurance policy for Chad and grab the top DE to replace departed John Abraham. Welcome Mario Williams to New York. With 11 sacks as a rookie, he’ll turn out to have been a bargain of a trade.

1.6 Raiders: AJ Hawk will replace long gone Napoleon Harris as a better 1st rd OLB for this team. DEF is getting better. Raiders could be 11-5 in 2006.

1.7 49ers: with DeMeco Ryans’s stock having dropped a bit since his workout and Nolan needing to replace 3 of his departed LBs during the offseason, Chad Greenway will become a nice WLB for this year’s return to a 4-3… not by choice: by lack of personnel.

1.8 The Bills had been projected as drafting the top DT of the draft and they did just that. Porous run no more. Ngata is plugging the run in Buffalo.

1.9 The Lions go for Santonio Holmes, picking a WR with their 1st pick for the 10th year running. No? Yeah, maybe not… Could be, though! Otherwise, taking the bet that Joey will be all right after all, that Pollard will last one more year, that Lehman will finally pan out, Marinelli decides to grab the top CB of the draft. Michael Huff is a Lion.

1.10 If you think Dennis Green is happy with Kurt Warner, you must be thinking that Santa Claus will bring you a winning Lottery ticket for Christmas. However… you might be right! Yes, it was a long time coming, but the Cards traded out of the 1.10 with the Dolphins, who picked Jay Cutler. A new QB is in Fins town.

1.11 Rams had been projected to pick Vernon Davis and do just that. As a side note, Davis will be picked in the top 10 of 80% of EFS drafts. He is this year’s top WR – though playing TE.

1.12 Browns: Crennel will need an RB in 2007 but for matters at hand and reconstruction, DEF is needed here… DeMeco Ryans’s stock dropped a bit but at 1.12, he’s a steal.

1.13 Billick is happy with Boller and Brooks and Chester Taylor, so he decided to trade down with the Vikings, in dire need to snatch DeAngelo Williams. The kid has moves, his head screwed on right and will help Culpepper become Culpepper again.

1.14 Eagles land Santonio Holmes. It’d been projected forever… They needed a top WR and 2006 is slim pickings.

1.15 Falcons had been projected to pick a DE here for a long time… They do just that and select Kiwanuka. Good value pick.

1.16 The Cardinals are happy with Dennis’s choice to drop down… They get LenDale White for cheap and for an extra 3rd pick… Not bad. So it will be Warner, Boldin, Fitz and White in the new stadium. Who’s laughing these days?

1.17 The Ravens were also happy to drop down… With McAlister gone for greener pasture, the other birds select Jimmy Wiliams at CB.

1.18 The ‘Boys had been projected to go after another DEF project for Parcells final run to the Super Bowl. After 2005 strong DEF draft, he adds Darnell Bing here and regrets it soon after training camp, when Simpson is lost to a torn ACL.

1.19 The Chargers are happy to grab another DEF gem at a low price and snatch Tamba Hali. Good pick to wreak havoc in the back field with Merriman.

1.20 The Giants were getting antsy and Accorsi needed to make a deal, any deal. This time, he’s after a top LB… Bobby Carpenter fits the bill and is snatched now, better than later. Another antsy move, but what Accorsi wants, he gets.

1.21 The Patriots will be happy to grab Tye Hill here. In terms of EFS stats, Tye Hill could be the top CB to grab in 2006… and can be had for a low 2nd rd pick in most EFS leagues.

1.22 Broncos landed TO, so a WR is no longer needed. An RB will be picked in rd 4 and rush for 1000 yards… So what’s here? I think Winston Justice goes here, because the trick to making 1000 yarders is to have the best OL possible.

1.23 Bucs go for 1.22 all over again and go for OL too. McNeill goes here and Cadillac is happy to be reunited with his old buddy.

1.24 Marv is not happy about being here and his guys gone… so he decides to slide down a bit and the Bengals won’t pick in the 1st rd this year. Instead, Nawlins and Payton grab this pick and Darnell Bing here for their 2nd and 4th picks. For the record, Marv will go OC with his 2nd rder and pick the top OC of the draft. Nice.

1.25 Chiefs had been projected to snatch a CB… Youboty falls pretty low and they got an extra 4rd for the kid from the Giants. Good value at this level.

1.26 With Randle El re-signing in Pittsburgh because he believes that a 2nd ring is better than a few extra millions, the Bears go after the best WR available here and select Chad Jackson.

1.27 The Panthers grab Marcedes Lewis here… Solid TE and the right choice at the end of the 1st rd.

1.28 With Donovin Darius finally traded and gone for good, the Jags go after Darnell Bing here and are ecstatic with Ko Simpson falling this low. Sweet catch and Ko will become a top 24 pick in most EFS leagues.

1.29 With TO and his OL locked up, Mike Shanahan is happy to yield his second 1st for an extra 2nd this year and a 2.2006. The Packers know it’s reconstruction time but it’s going to be a short reconstruction!! In the most aggressive draft of the franchise (never had it made 2 deals in the 1st round), the Packs grab Dumervil and score a big coup. Top draft. Dumervil and Young? White and Favre? That’s the plan!

1.30 This year’s EFS version of JJ Arrington is the Colts’ selection of Brian Calhoun. Calhoun will become a top 10 pick in 80% of the leagues… But this time, Calhoun is the real deal and will make a lot of owners happy.

1.31 The Seahawks will add to their great pass rush and snatch a top DT, Mr. Bunkley. And record a total of 60 sacks in 2006. Nice.

1.32 The Steelers will be happy to pick last for the first time in 30 years and will spend the pick on Mike D’Andrea, a nice ILB project to complement Foote & Farrior.
