St Louis Rams Draft Review

1st Round (15th overall)
CB-Tye Hill-Clemson

Hill has the chance to play his way into a starting corner spot. He has great speed and is a good tackler. Should see instant playing time at nickel and possible at KR because of his speed. Was a bit of a reach, at the 15 pick, but should become a solid corner in a couple years. Grade C+

2nd Round (46th overall)
TE-Joe Klopfenstein-Colorado

The loss of Manumaleuna instantly opens up the TE spot for Klopfenstein. He has all the tools. Size, speed, althetic, and strong. He should be able to keep Bulger upright in two ways. 1) decent blocker, 2) can work the shorter routes in the middle of the field. The Rams might have reached just a little, but the need was more important. Grade B-

3rd Round (68th overall)
DT-Claude Wroten-LSU

The Rams run a 4-3, so Wroten should see plenty of playing time immediately, in rotation with Kennedy and Glover. Wroten is athletic and has a quick burst. He's a little on the small side for a DT, but has a good motor and is relentless. Great pick at this point and should become a solid DT for years. Grade B+

3rd Round (77th overall)
OLB-Jon Alston-Stanford

A little small for a LB so he might be tried at safety. He doesn't possess good cover skills, so the Rams may be forced to keep him at LB because the one thing he does well, is rush the QB. Tough to judge this guy because even though he does have talent he'll be buried on the depth chart at LB. I certainly don't beleive he'll outplay the other safeties on the roster. The Rams reached quite a bit on this pick. Grade D

3rd Round (93rd overall)
TE-Dominique Byrd-USC

Considered one of the top TE's in the draft. The only knock on Byrd is his durability. Quick with good hands and can stretch the field. The Rams might be looking to run more 2 TE sets. He has the chance to help Bulger stay healthy, but his fantasy worth is very limited right now because of all of the weapons the Rams possess. A good pick, at this point, none the less. Grade B-

4th Round (113th overall)
DE-Victor Adeyanju-Indiana

Good size and speed but still learning. Playing behind Little should allow Victor to sharpen his skills. If he can refine his moves and become more technicaly sound, Adeyanju could become another Leonard Little, minus the off the field issues. Great pick though. Grade B

5th Round (144th overall)
WR-Marques Hagans-Virginia

A bit on the small side. Won't see much time at WR but could see some special teams work. Considered a good return specialist, he should compete with Looker for the PR/KR duties. Grade D

7th Rounders
LB-Tim McGarigle-Northwestern
OG-Mark Setterstrom-Minnesota
OG-Tony Palmer-Missouri

Not much fantasy worth for any of these 3 guys. All three should be fighting it out to even make the team.

Summary: The Rams didn't really draft any immediate impact players to help them battle with the Seahawks and Cardinals for the NFC West title. This will, all but assure the Rams, of a 3rd place finish in the NFC West.
