AFC West
Kansas City Chiefs November Report

The Chiefs started the year with two tough losses and the loss of their starting QB before their week 3 bye. Since that time they have jumped on the back of RB Larry Johnson in true Herman Edwards style and beaten quite a few good teams. Whether they can make the playoffs will depend if they can keep up their hot play with Trent Green back under center. The Chiefs still have tough remaining games against Baltimore, San Diego, and a week 17 game against Jacksonville that could very well be for a wild card spot in the tough AFC. Let’s take a look at the boom and bust fantasy players for K.C.:

Boom: RB Larry Johnson has been the dominant force every one expected him to be and, while not the touchdown machine that Tomlinson has been this year, LJ has not disappointed any of his owners. DE Tamba Hali has been a surprise factor this year which has been great news for owners that picked him as low as the 3rd or 4th round of EFS rookie drafts.

Bust: While there is no way to predict an injury like QB Trent Green’s, many EFS owners were depending on Green to lead the way for their offense with defenses keying on Larry Johnson. LB Kendrell Bell has still never found the ROY form that he had his first year in Pittsburgh. DB Sammy Knight may quickly be out of a starting job as he is being pushed by S Bernie Pollard.

Fantasy Playoff Implications:
LJ is a must start every week even though the Ravens defense will keep him to a minimum in week 14. If you are fortunate enough to make the Championship Game and you have Johnson, he may win it all for you when the Chiefs take on the Raiders in week 16. No other skill players will be worth much during EFS playoffs but DL Jared Allen and Hali, and LB Kawika Mitchell and Derrick Johnson will be solid plays the rest of the year.
