TB Pre-draft Report

Needs include - OL, WR, DE, DT, OB, IB, CB... heck, the whole team. The offense is weak, and the defense is aging. They have the 4th, 35th, 64th, 68th, 99th, 132nd, and 196th picks, plus whatever they might get in compensation, prior to any pre-draft dealing.

I see the Bucs going for the BPA (best player available) in practically every round. The OL is getting better but still needs help, and depth. I'd be surprised if they go early for an OL, but I expect a pick or two in the later rounds to be used here. WR's are inconsistent and aging. Most Mock Drafts have Calvin Johnson falling to the Bucs in the 4th slot, and the Bucs will not let him slide by. The QB situation is ok for the moment, but is a long-term mess. Look for the Bucs to avoid any action here in the draft.

Instead, I see a lot of activity on the defensive side of the ball, where the team is still solid but getting really, really old. DE is a prime spot for some youth, to replace the doddering Simeon Rice and the unimpressive Greg Spires. Likewise for the LB spots - Derrick Brooks and Sheldon Quarles are getting ancient, and everyone else fails to impress. At the CB's, Ronde Barber and Brian Kelley are solid, but getting older every day. At least the safeties are young. And, the XK and XP, while uninspiring, are solid.

Guesstimates:
4th : Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech
35th: Quentin Moses, DE, Georgia
64th: H.B. Blades, IB, Pittsburgh
68th: Earl Everett, OB, Florida
99th: David Irons, CB, Auburn
132nd: Justin Durant, OB, Hampton
196th: Chris Denman, OT, Fresno State
