Detroit Lions 2008 Draft Coverage: Round #1

There will be many critics that say Matt Millen made yet some more mistakes on his 2008 picks. I have to for the first time defend his picks which is unchartered territory.
His pick with Godser Cherilus was a great pick in disguse. Cherilus will provide an immediate impact at the RT position and when Jeff Backus is done, he will move to the left OT position. I think the trade with KC in order for KC to get OT Branden Albert was okay but I think they could have received a better deal than the deal with the Lions receiving an extra 3rd Rounder. But, it is what is. I think with Brandon Albert being drafted with everyone knowing he will be a Guard was a good choice by Detroit. Therfore, I think they took the best player available with what they need NOW as well as when Jeff Backus goes down.
Overall, I think Millen made a good choice, but with his lack of attacking the draft after losing some key defensive players such as Shaun Rogers and in severe need of ILBs and CBs. They once again were worst in the league in Points Allowed and its getting rather old. They need to focus on DEFENSE!!!
