The NFL has changed the official scoring of a sack, in which was credited to Gerald Hayes but should have gone to Chike Okeafor. http://www.azcardinals.com/blog/blog.php?author=1

I lost my game this week by 12 points, but this will give me a tie with my opposing opponent. Overall, I would win the tie breaker due to my team winning offense and special teams (2 out of 3 positions).

The score was 350 - 338

You'd still just live with the tie, but I guess that's better than a loss, huh? But dang, did you watch that game and know that he wasn't credited with the sack like he should've or do you keep track that closely with all your players? I think I'm slipping cuz I wouldn't even have a clue if this happened to any of my players. Maybe I should go look :p is there a usual site you refer to with "changes to stats"?

The NFL site may have credited him with the sack, but the official NFL Gamebook still shows him with no sack.

A Chike sack after the fact
A review of the game tape by the NFL adjusted a couple of sacks in the Cards-49ers game. One was the sack credited to linebacker Gerald Hayes. That sack has now been credited to fellow linebacker Chike Okeafor. Okeafor, who missed the entire 2007 season because of injury, now has sacks in the last six games in which he has played -- second in franchise history behind the seven-game streak Curtis Greer had in 1984-85.

The other change was on the 49ers side, which gave defensive end Justin Smith a ful sack rather than having him split it with Parys Haralson

I have been a part of EFSports for seven years now, and teams have until the following Thursday to identify any scoring changes the NFL adjust during the week. When these changes do go into effect and are officially changed in the NFL books, EFSports has gone in and adjusted the scoring for each team, respectively.

Are you saying EFSports is no longer making these changes going forward because of technical issues with your softward program? What's fair is fair, I am just stating the obvious facts. Please come to a collective agreement and get back with me when time permits.

To repeat: We just present the data. We have NO SAY in what EFS does with it. We also didn't say anything was changed from past seasons. We don't know how EFS runs things. We just provide data. This seems to be an issue that gets confused A LOT in these forums.

The NFL site may have credited him with the sack, but the official NFL Gamebook still shows him with no sack.

The gamebooks never get updated, so you can't trust them for scoring changes. Check out the stats for individual players (or teams) to see if their stats match what was in the gamebook. Its easier this week since you don't have to find last week's YTD numbers and do the math. The league updates the seasonal (YTD) stats on Wednesday or Thursday each week. Once they do, the stats on NFL.com are pretty darn accurate, or so our experience has been.

An easier test case for this week is Carson Palmer and Chris Perry of Cincy. A 1st quarter swing pass for 5 yards has been changed to a lateral and thus, a run by Perry. If you look at the gamebook and compare it to the NFL.com stats for Palmer and Perry, you'll see the differences. That's the best way we've found to confirm (from a purely stats standpoint) whether a scoring change actually occurred. Like I said, it gets trickier once we move into the season due to the math involved in taking YTD from prior to the game and then adding in the current week's stats.

The NFL is notorius for making small changes like this and NEVER ANNOUNCING IT ANYWHERE IN A FORMAL, OFFICIAL MANNER. It is catch as catch can on finding these things.

If you see something like this, bring it to the forum so we (Quick Stats) can investigate and research it.

Thanks.
