I don't want to announce this, but I just had to tell you. IBM just announced 2 new server lines. Get this, we can now just buy the OLTP we need (read green screen) and get a huge increase in server CPW (horsepower). For example we/others we share with paid $165,000.00 (aprox) for the current server which has 1480 CPW both OLTP and Server.
The new boxes will let us buy only 30 or 40 OLTP, yet still have 3800cpw for all other processing (read websphere). And guess what the price is.........Drum roll here.....................
About 45K, meaning we can lower efs cost by at least 30% to 50% maybe more.
I just wanted to let you know.... This is great for pricing and profits! And should kick ass on performance.
The bad part, we have to wait another 10 months to convert. And You/I have to get all the DTX shit gone, no option, DTX will not run on the new OS they are releasing for Power5
