1. Payton Pride - Adrian Peterson: There are really only three choices here. Take Peterson, Calvin Johnson, or trade down. With two top 10 backs in L.T. and Willie PArker, this is more of a luxury pick. He already has Chester Taylor so this was a good pick. Don't think he will make a big impact this season, but Peterson could be a top 10 back in 2008.
2. Just Not Last - Calvin Johnson: Adrian Peterson would have been a great addition to this team that is very weak at RB. Already has Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson,, Donte STallworth, and Antonio Gates at WR/TE. May have benefited from a trade down from this pick where he picks up a quality young back or trade up to 1 to get Peterson. That being said, if you stay at this pick you have to take Johnson over Lynch. Johnson has all the tools to be a top 5 WR in a couple of years.
3. Gridiron Guru - Marshawn Lynch: Lynch adds depth to a RB corp that already has Benson, Julius Jones, and Thomas Jones. There is such a difference in talent from picks 1 and 2 to the 3rd pick. This was a bad year for fantasy RB's as guys like Deangelo Williams, Maroney, and Addai were getting picked up in the 4-9 range. He'll get a fair share of carries but even Mcgahee couldn't put up top RB numbers behind that Buffalo Oline. I think in terms of talent he is closer to former Cal back JJ Arrington than he is to Adrian Peterson.
4. Raider Nation - Jamarcus Russell: Given the team name I dont think this is a big surprise. There was a need for a young QB as Garcia and Mcnair could be on their last legs. Russell an Cutler form a promising QB duo, if he can somehow trade for Rivers he'll have the AFC west pretty much covered. I don't think Russell will be a quality fantasy QB started until at least his 3rd or 4th season. He will take a beating behind a Raider Oline that easily allowed the most sacks last season.
5. Wrecking Crew - Brady Quinn: I have the 22nd pick in the draft and I knew there was no chance Quinn would drop to me as he did in the NFL draft. Sort of a head scratcher as the team already has 4 young Qb's in Losman, Schaub, Alex Smith, and Croyle. Could have filled other needs on Defense. I think Quinn lands in a better spot that Russell did. I'm not all that sold on Quinn ever being a top QB though.
6. Dropuouts - Patrick Willis: TEams biggest needs are probably Dline, RB, and WR. But Willis has the potential to put up Urlacher like stats. I think this is a very safe and solid selection.
7. Rams Revenge - Paul Posluzny: Teams got alot of holes to fill out. This is a bit of a gamble. I think its a little high for Posluzny, but the guy has a ton of potential taking over the productive spot at MLB in Buffalo's D that London Fletcher flourished in. He won't nearly as productive as Fletcher was but could come close. The thing that would concern me though is that I think Posluzny's best position would be at one of the OLB spots. There's a good chance he could get moved there at some point of his career. In that case this would have been a big reach.
8. Bryce Boys 2 - Laron Landry: Think this could be high for a safety but DB was a huge need on this team. Landry's combine really shot him up the draft board. Landry definitely has the tools to be a top 10 DB.
9. Wrecking Crew - Anthony Spencer: I'm a little surprised at Spencer going this high. He does land in a great situation with the Cowboys and Wade Phillips calling the shots. Those tweener type hybrid players have been very productive the past few years. I don't think he has the natural ability of Ware, Merriman, or Wimbley though. I'm surprised he didn't go with Gaines Adams here as both Suggs and Byran Thomas could move to LB this season leaving a big hole a DL.
10. Raider Nation - Dwayne Bowe: I think this could be a little high for Bowe(i got him at 2.9 in another league). I do have Bowe rated as the 2nd best WR in the draft so all in all not a bad pick.
11. Rams Revenge - Jon Beason: Rams elects to take another LB in the first round. I think Beason will be a solid LB. Could move into the MLB when Morgan gets hurt again.
12. Brookies - Lawrence Timmons: Timmons is the 5th LB to go in the first round. Its getting a little crowded at LB on Brookies team, but Timmons could provide solid numbers for the newest owner in our league.
