Hi all,

It looks like i have some time between now and end-of-august to make some site improvements. These are NOT rule change related, but things that'd make the site easier and/or fun to use. Whether they seem like a bug or simply something new that'd help out. Here's a list of what i'm looking at:

01) trades
a) when a player or pick is in a pending trade offer, that player or pick is not available for another trade offer. allow this.
b) trade messages -- the ability to post a message to the other trade party (and only them) visible on the trade detail page

02) gmt
In the conversion to the new pages, the functionality corresponding to adjusting the displayed current system time based on one's gmt wasn't coded.

---

i have more of a list at home -- can't remember them right now.

Let me know what you think.

If I understand you correctly on the trade issue this is a great idea - there have been multiple instances when trades have been in the offer stage that I would like to open my own offer for players / draft position in the trade, but you cannot do it because the system locks those players / draft positions out. Until both owner agree to a trade it would be nice to be able to try to cut your own deal without simply relying on email and then offers being withdrawn and recreated.

Some times you are not aware a player / draft position is availalbe until you see it posted in an offer this would allow you to act with maybe a better offer before both owners accept.

If this is what you are talking about - it would be a great improvement.

I'm on the West Coast, does this mean my pages will be displayed in Pacific Standard/Daylight Time? No more doin' the math in my head? That would be unbelievably cool (I hate math)! ;=)

One other possible function that would be helpful - this came up during our excrutiatingly long draft in league 16 which is now at a whopping 46 days or so and counting.

There is a clock set for picks to be made BUT even when the time ran out the team that was on the clock just started to turn NEGATIVE time - this kind of defeats the purpose of a clock.

Suggestion - create a function where in the case of a clock run down the team is awarded the highest scoring available player from any position. You really have no room to complain if you don't set a list and you let the clock run out (especially a 24 hour clock) - if needed you could make it an option that a commissioner could turn off if the league did not like that function - but from experience it would have been nice to have.

Just a suggestion.

I'd like to be able to post trade offers to a owner without everyone being able to see the offers out there.

On the league roster page would it be possible to have each teams cap #'s with each team so it makes it a little easier to see if possible trades would work. Instead of having to go out to each teams site when your trying to see what might be possible.

I'd like to be able to see past season records and playoff results. And also past rookie drafts. This is dynasty football so would be nice to see how things have gone.

Also would be nice to be able to see overall record of a owner ID for his career in EFS on a owner rankings page.

That Clock issue is mine, and to be honest, I forgot about it. I'll put it back on my list. The old "auto" picker sucked, so I dumped it planning to write a new one. Now that things are slowing down a bit for now at least. I will start a thread to discuss what can be done in the future.

thanks

this borders on a rule change. but i agree it would be nice.

i'll put this enqueue

Tell Stan! I'd like to see all this too. I'm still waiting to coax him into giving me what i need for the past rookie drafts (and older vet drafts).

Not sure if this'd be possible but i can look into it if i have time.

Here's what i have so far for stuff i think i can fit in by end-of-august. Other ideas not on this list are enqueued.

01) gmt adjustment: adjust all displayed timestamps by the gmt setting in the customer master

- this is done and ready to be deployed.

02) trade enhancements: a) allow players & picks in a -pending/offered- trade to be added to another -pending/offered- trade, and b) trade-specific messages (only visible to guys in the trade)

- a) is done and ready to be deployed. i found out (b) is not possible without Stan being on-board. Tabling for now.

03) commish/vice-comm privileges: allow commish or vice-commish to make draft picks for anyone in the league. This'll allow leagues that draft with "everyone in the room" to designate one guy to make all the picks for all owners.

04) "most added / removed": create an interleague page which shows the players in the last week (or 2 weeks or month) that were the most added (UFA) and the most removed (waivers)

---

#1 & #2 are definitely my top 2. #2 will take a while so i don't know how much time i'll have after that. Stan's been asking for #3 for years, so i thought i'd finally address it. #4 is a nice-to-have pet project for me to play with.

---

Please keep your ideas coming.

I second all these suggestions. Especially the history one. Maybe have a history page set up that we can view all the stats from previous years as well as overall combined EFS stats. Great Idea!

OK, OK, OK... I will investigate getting the old drafts and winners available for display. Rock, meaning I will make sure we keep them. You are still on the hook for the display.

Stan, if you fix the draft information, then the veteran draft page will work. Afterwords, i will replace the "current picks" page with one where you can query a specific year's worth of draft picks. It will default to the set of picks it shows now.

i'm also thinking of creating a "load pick" (by year, round and pick) page like the new player page where you basically see a pick's trade history and who was eventually picked. i think it'd be neat to see where that pick you traded went and who was eventually drafted with that pick. Maybe even include the player that was drafted in some sort of "trade analysis" section of trade history detail.

My first idea with old league winners is to modify the playoffs page to query by year, defaulting to the last year played.

LEGEND's comments were nails - let's see what we can do to support his takes. The NFL is no flavor-of-the-month organization. It's all about HISTORY - that's precisely why they have gold jackets and a Hall of Fame in Canton.

Achievements from Sammy Baugh to Don Hutson to Jim Brown to Johnny Unitas to Dick Butkus to Jack Lambert to Walter Payton to Joe Montana to Bruce Smith to Emmitt Smith to John Elway to Marshall Faulk to Marvin Harrisons to Ladainan Tomlinson to Jerry Rice to Peyton Manning to the Billy Gramaticas of the league. It's about the storied history. Let's amp that up......the way the NFL does.
