View Full Version : '06 Side Bet
Guys,
I want to take a poll to see who is interested in having a side bet again this year. Last year 14 owners were in, and the breakdown was:
1) $600 for 1st place regular season
2) $100 for 2nd place regular season
3) $600 for EFS bowl winner
4) $100 for EFS bowl runner-up
5) Free entry into '06 Fantasy Jungle for EFS bowl winner
Once we know the number of particpants we can establish the payouts.

Hey everyone, a few things on the sidebet this year.
In addition to the money, I willdonate a free Jungle footballteam to the winner of the EFS Bowl once again.
What I request is we make a window where everyone that wants to participate, sends in their money. Last year, some were paying during the season, after the season, and it was a pain in the ass to track it down and try and remind everyone to pay.
So lets just do this, if you are in, send me your money by the start of our EFS rookie draft. That should give everyone enough time. This way, it will be alot easier on my end to keep track of who has paid, and it means everyone is paid before the season starts (season meaning the begining of our draft)so nobody can back out if they are having a bad start.
I will mark off everyone's names when I receive your checks and post it here.
Make thechecks out to :

In addition, the regular season Jungle signups have started. One thing we did this year, was we are now offering payment plans. So whether you get 1 team or 4 teams, you can pay at once or split it into as much as 5 payments right now. The earlier you sign up, the more months you get to pay, and for some people I know this is going to be very beneficial. Instead of paying $400 at once, you can get a team for $75 a month.
Also, we are having an early signup promotion. Signup by June 1, and you will get a free Fantasy Jungle hooded sweatshirt. So if you are going to play, by signing up now, you get a free sweatshirt (they are really nice by the way) and you can make monthly payments for your teams. You cant beat that.
Signing up early helps because people if we can create an early buzz, we can get more people in and that means bigger prizes.
We also are having a high roller league this year, so some of you will want to check that out, in addition to the main game.

Check mailed today.
Whats the final tally of guys involved in the sidebet?
I don't have a final tally yet. After FJMike sent the last update summarizing the entrants, a few more owners sent emails saying they were sending a check. We'll have a count soon.
Soon.like, after the draft and ufa etc. when the stragglers finally decide if they want to participate?Personally i'd love to have 16 guys participate, but what's the point of setting a deadline, allowing guys plenty of time to decide yea or nay,and than dragging it out? Just my opinion.
Per FJMike's post earlier in this thread, the cutoff for participating in the side bet was the start of the rook draft. There was a gap of time between his last update and the beginning of the draft. So, to the extent we have more particpants in the side bet than he indicated earlier, it's because they came in before the cutoff.
I'm a nay, so you don't have to worry about me. And I haven't been in on the sidebet since the start of our league. I mainly just do this for fun and to learn and to make some new friendships.

Do we have a total yet?
yes, we have a total of 10 owners. I'll post the names later when I have a moment.
Here are the 10 teams that are in the side pool:
MoSo
RFLers
Charlotte 49ers
Syracuse Slappers
Sol Diablos
Mich Mountains
Beer Men
Professor Pigskin
Wicked Wrecking Crew
Kinnick Pride
The payout will be:
1) $400 for 1st place regular season
2) $100 for 2nd place regular season
3) $400 for EFS bowl winner
4) $100 for EFS bowl runner-up
5) Free entry into '07 Fantasy Jungle for EFS bowl winner
On 8/1 Mike Williams announced:
ALso guys, Id like to announce this year that if the winner of the regular
season points total is different then the EFS BOWL WINNER, we will give both
teams a free entry into the Jungle next season!!!!
Thanks, Mike!!

So I guess RFL'ers will get 2 entries this year instead of 1. ;) j/k guys, can't wait for the season to begin. Been doing mocks since early May and am ready for the real thing to get started.
I just realized that our fearless leader,co-owner of The Fantasy Jungle and the underachieving Moso team...has the same name as my overrated, underachieving 2005#1 draft choice...who also happens to play for that Motor City team. Has anyone ACTUALLY ever seen FJMike at the same time as the Lions wide receiver? Coincidence??? You tell me!!!! ;)
I prefer injury riddled to underachieving!!!
The only thing me and the Lions Mike Williams have in common is we have the same name, and we both have lived in Michigan and Florida.
And while my HIGH SCHOOL TE hands were as soft as his USC hands, I think he is really embarrasing us now in that department!!!

I went looking for this in the archives. Looks like 5 of the 6 playoff teams are in the $$$ hunt, the exception being Superpions. Congratulations to the RFLers, looks like you guys rebounded well from a slow start and scored $300 for the regular season's best record. Good luck to all the playoff teams and keep this in mind - there is no shame in finishing second! ;)

Not positive, but I don't think any money is decided yet, is it? Total points for the year gets 1/2, playoff winner gets the other 1/2, no?

Regular season most points (Gordon) gets $400
Regular season #2 (RFL'ers) gets $100
Playoff Champ TBD $400
Playoff Runner-up $100
Gordon has also secured a jungle entry

I think the total points winner is after week 17...(not that we have a chance at it), and there wasn't a Jungle entry given to total points...I'm pretty sure we won that in year one, and all we won was 1/2 the sidebet.

FJMike said he'd give a jungle entry to the efs bowl winner and reg season winner if they were different this year.

Gotcha...it's still through 17 weeks though, right?
No, the 2nd free entry into the FJ is for the 'regular season points total'. The regular season ended last week and Charlotte49er's had the highest points total. Way to go, Gordon. Congrats!

I stand corrected...congrats Gordon.
And, just so you know, I tried hard to take the high road. What I really meant to say was "Gordon, you lucky SOB, just wait 'till we meet in the playoffs, assuming your pitiful squad can get through the first round, and Greg and I plan to lay a major league beatdown on your sorry ass." :D
Mike,if I did get by WWC,wouldn't I play Beermen?
Gordon,
Yep, you're right. If you beat Wicked then you play Beer Men regardless of what happens in the Superpions/Sol Diablo game.

looks like I was wrong about the payout and the league winner. I incorrectly A-S-S-U-M-E-D that "regular season winner" meant best record. So.... congratulations to the 49ers. Gordon, if you feel like a big winner already and can talk your team into taking a dive, we'll just keep it our little secret...;)

Sounds like the "mob" has infiltrated EFS.Charlotte49ers take a dive,WWC goes on to win the Superbowl...and I get a 1 way ticket to Palookaville."I coulda been a contender...I coulda been a Superbowl Winner, instead of a Bum,which is what I am"...;)Hopefully anyone reading this recognizes my homage to "On The Waterfront".

I heard the weather forecast for Pittsburgh last night and decided that the Steelers would have trouble throwing in the wind & cold. Figured the Browns would stack the line and shut down Parker so I took Max Starks out of my lineup and put in Clifton - wrong again! 303 yards rushing, over 500 yards of offense, and Starks and his 36 points sitting on the damn bench. Just once I'd like to make a last-minute switch that actually panned out...:(

Great season all! Nice to see a different champion each season. Just like in the NFL, your chances of winning the superbowl are 1 out of 32 (1 out of 16 here). Nice to see parity, inour League.
