View Full Version : Philosophical Question

A friend of mine asked me the other day if it is harder on a head coach/GM to lose by 300 or to lose by 1. Having lost by both of these margins recently I was able to answer his question.

Losing by 300 is easy. As you look at the scores during the day and see that all of his DL have sacks, LT has 200 yards and 4 TDs or that his kicker has more points than all but one of your players it becomes apparent that you do not have a chance. You can then sit back and enjoy the days games, not worrying if your dynasty team loses because it only counts as one loss and there is always next week.

Losing by 1 on the other hand, is nerve racking. You're sitting in front of the TV on Monday night joined by your fiance screaming at Mathis to get just one tackle so that you can win both of your games, when on the last play of the game he comes off the left edge at the bottom of your screen and takes down Quinn Gray. 10 seconds of elation follow, including hugs, high fives and celebratory drinks until you hear the announcer say "And Dwight Freeney has another sack!" At this point falling to your knees and requesting an instant replay falls on deaf ears and you never really know if it was Freeney or Mathis that got the sack (although you can be pretty sure that Freeney got the sack and that Mathis just joined the dog pile, you didn't see any of the other action while you were concentrating on Mathis). What makes matters worse is that you are playing against Freeney in the other game you have that week and your 8 point lead is erased on the last play of the game to give you 2 losses and creating a very bad Tuesday.

So you see the answer to the philosophical questions is that it is much worse to lose by 1. Or 6 or 7 or 13....

And the next week, the same team that beat you by 1 - loses to Creepin' Death as a result of a 66 pt performance by M. Vrabel - the Pat's offensive juggernaut.

Gentlemen - We are officially reaching parody. Look no further than my record and TD's - NEVER would have expected both to be the same this time of the year.

Atleast this is what I keep telling myself after last week's lost to CD.
