1-1 Reggie Bush (Tonys Jarheads via trade) – Gave up Tiki Barber and AJ Hawk to acquire the talented but unproven Bush. Overall it is a fair and balanced trade but I feel this team created a hole at LB and got rid of fantasy pairing of RB’s in LJ and Tiki now is LJ and take your pick from (Brian Westbrook, Willie Parker, Warrick Dunn) and reserves Davenport and Bennett. Not a bad situation to have all of those guys and Bush but just not having Tiki and LJ hurts as well as no impact players at LB
1-2 A.J. Hawk (Barracudas via trade) – Adding Hawk to an explosive group of LB’s that now include Hawk, Brackett, Bulluck, Washington, Ware, and DJ Williams was a super move for this team. Add in Tiki Barber and you now has a #1 fantasy back. Funny thing is that this team has Deuce McAllister and traded away Reggie Bush. Hard to beat the deal he got, but keep in mind that is market value for Reggie Bush. Just now have to hope Deuce gets traded.
1-3 Laurence Maroney (MiamiRaiders) – Arguably the #2 fantasy back (at this point in time flip a coin between Maroney, Williams, and Addai). What this team needed was a dependable fantasy back and Maroney has a chance to become that but probably not this year. Now you have a backfield loaded with maybes in Chester Taylor, Tatum Bell, Julius Jones, and Maroney. Talent and numbers usually pays off, stay tuned to see if this team has found a back to steady it’s course
1-4 Joseph Addai (HoosierDaddy2) – Arguably the most fantasy ready back in terms of perceived immediate playing time. Addai does have a bit of an injury history but he can stay healthy and provide the same production he did at LSU he will go a long way to making the Colts say Edgerrin who? But with that said he joins Ronnie Brown on this team in hopes of forming a 1-2 fantasy bunch this team needs. Good pickup
1-5 Vince Young (Austin Thrashers 2) – I was really targeting one of the three backs that already went off the board and with my team having a bunch of questions at QB (Brees, Aaron Brooks, and Volek) I needed to get YOUNGer for the future. I personally feel that I drafted Young too high but he fits a need on my team. This was defiantely a risk/reward type pick but if Young turns out to be what he was at Texas this will have been a #5 pick well spent, if not what was I thinkingJ
1-6 Mario Williams (Dizzyspell) – After AJ Hawk Williams is the best fantasy defender left on the board in a weak crop of DE prospects (many of the good ones will be LB’s in the pros). I do like the pick of Mario because he should be a day 1 starter for an awful defense. Just have to see if all the hype turns into stats or is just measureables. This pick sure does solidify the DL for this team but you have to wonder much like the Thrashers will passing Deangelo Williams be a big mistake?
1-7 LenDale White (Turd Sandwich) – The team that is ripped straight out of a South Park episode might be left with a turd sandwich of their own with the pick of Lendale White. The only “big back†of the draft is in a crowded back field with the likes of Travis Henry, Chris Brown, and Jarred Payton to name a few. Throw in Vince Young (scrambling QB) and Lendale might have to sit a couple of year. Lets just hope with freedom he is able to take care of that body and show his potential. I feel this pick was a bit of a reach especially over Deangelo Williams but White could be a great value a couple years down the road ala Larry Johnson
1-8 Vernon Davis (Vandels) – This has to be the most intriguing pick thus far. I personally have had a hard time figuring out what kind of pro Vernon Davis will eventually make let alone his rookie year. I know that numerous publications single out Davis and Bush as the rookies to make the most impact. With that being said Davis adds depth to a wr corp that includes Rod Smith, Marvin Harrison, and Donald Driver. This is another risk/reward pick and if the 49ers can get some offense going this pick will look that much better as Davis and Antonio Bryant become Alex Smith’s favorite targets
1-9 Jay Cutler (Which One is Pink) – All you have to mention with this pick is that this team has Jake Plummer and Kyle Boller as the starting QB’s. With no other viable successor on this roster the pick of Cutler ensures this team the service of a Broncos QB for the foreseeable future. I have never bought into the Cutler hype but what I can tell you is that Cutler fell into the lap of Mike Shannahan and as long as that man is in Denver he will be in Cutler corner.
1-10 Deangelo Williams (TheBigCasinos) – Well the Deangelo Williams freefall is finally over. This team was in desperate need of depth at RB with only Portis and Dillion to show. Portis is fantasy stud and if Williams develops as I project this team will have a dangerous backfield of the future. This team is banking on Dillion beating out Maroney for one more year and Williams benefiting from a Deshaun Foster injury. Great pick and value in the #10 hole…at this point in the round you have nothing to lose.
1-11 Ernie Simms (Bandits) – This is a little higher than I had Simms going but only by 2 or 3 picks. This defense was in need of one more playmaker at LB to pair with a healthy Ray Lewis, Derrick Brooks, and Shawne Merriman (I like Sean better). Should team nicely with Boss Bailey in Detroit and offer the Lions a much faster and potentent LB corp
1-12 Matt Lienart (Barracudas) – with the only two entrenched starters on the roster being the oft injured Rex Grossman, fragile Mark Brunell, and Byron Leftwich this team made a good choice in making the left handed signal caller from USC the last pick of round 1. If his QB’s can get him through the season or a resurgence from the old Chad Pennington this team will be ready to hand over the reins of the fun and gun offense in the desert to Matt Leinart and he will become a top 10 fantasy QB for years
