Speaking of the rookie draft...

In this 32-team league, 3 rounds of a rookie draft (96 players) would just about equal 7 rounds of normal 16-team league drafting (112 players).

What thoughts do we have on the length of the 32-team league rookie draft?

In this 32-team league, it would seem that the rookie draft becomes a waaaay less viable means to rebuild; and thus deems it somewhat inconsequential.

Furthermore, as the rookie draft then carries less value, how does that affect the RFA bid requirements and/or then player positional rankings and the corresponding draft pick compensation?

Encouraging player movement has always been stressed by EFS, and I wonder how this will be affected in a 32-team league.

(I touched on rookie draft, RFA & player movement in this single thread. A lot of topics I realize... sorry.)

I think the exact opposite. The rookie draft becomes even that more important, especially in the later rounds (4-7). The one thing I see a lot of now is people cutting non-performing rookie picks like Michael Bush and Dwayne Jarret. Here, you just cannot afford to cut a player, you need to hang onto him and let him develop, just like a real NFL team does. If he turns out to be a bust, you'll feel it just like a pro team will. I also think the PS will play more of an important part here.

I also see no reason to cut the rookie draft length back. Why put that many more players into a UFA pool? We'll just end up paying more for them and without the benefit of a rookie contract. If all 32 NFL teams can select players for 7 rounds, I don't see why this league should be any different. The whole idea here is to mimic the entire NFL.

As challenging as the 16 team leagues are, this will be much different. Teams here will only have a handful of studs to start each week, which is why you really need to make sure you're up for the task and know what your getting into.

I want to know what it's like to run an actual pro roster and the best way to do that is in a 32-team league.

I agree that we should keep the rookie draft at 7 rounds just like the NFL does.

the more teams you add, the more the rookie draft and trading become important to the success of a team. i agree to keep the rookie draft at 7 rounds.

my opiinion is if the proposal in the other thread suggesting that the 32 owners are given randomly generated numbers for draft order and then each team in turn picks an NFL team and is given their roster that in turn that owner gets the draft slot of that team in rookie draft. so for 2008 the guy with SF would get their roster plus their draft slot-each team would begin with one pick in each round. for instance just because NE owns SF rd1 pick in 08, for this EFS league SF would retain their pick because in reality the EFS owner did not trade it....

also if this is indeed the way we go then i would say that the teams play the exact schedule that their NFL team does in 2008 and in future....

I'm still not sure how to address the schedule given that teams in the NFL play 16 weeks and each has a bye week. EFS teams play 13 weeks and we have no bye weeks. The bye week may make drafting an entire team untenable.

I don't think we should draft from the same slots as the real NFL team does as this will unbalance things I think. Just cause a team is bad in the NFL does not mean they have bad fantasy players on it. For example, the Rams are horrible and will have a top pick but for fantasy purposes, they do have Bulger, SJAX, Holt, Witherspoon, etc... to work with while a team like Houston as less to work with in the fantasy world. I highly doubt when/if we do this thing, teams are going to draft the NFL team based on their actual NFL record as much as based on fantasy players said team has on its roster.

Best bet is to just reverse the draft order from the VET draft initial order. So if you pick first in Vet draft and select lets say the Colts, you will select 32nd in the rookie draft.

I think that will keep things on a level playing field to start.

Fantasy GM couldn't be more correct! A full 7 round rookie draft would be needed and development of young would be talent paramount to success.

7 rounds sounds good to me.

Rookie picks, in my estimation, will have a far greater value in a 32 team league. Keeping all seven rounds will be paramount. I can't wait to see who gets Mr. Irrelevant.

I agree with keeping the draft how we normally do it in smaller leagues.
