Guys,
Since we are only 1 wk away from closure to the stats; here are some interesting stats:
AVG Variance Team Contribution
QB (12) 33.271 65.431 33.271
OL (60) 17.917 7.585 89.585
RB (24) 17.463 19.350 34.925
WR (24) 17.286 14.554 34.573
LB (48) 16.937 5.612 67.748
TE (12) 16.906 15.094 16.906
XP (12) 16.580 0.927 16.580
XK (12) 16.253 2.169 16.253
DB (48) 14.817 2.420 59.267
DL (36) 14.054 10.043 42.161
Total 411.268
**Sorry for the lack of alignment on the columns, for some reason you can't post an excel sheet.
Points to note:
1. Offense was clearly the leading contributor in point production.
2. Hands down - QB is the most important position.
3. Suprisingly - RB, WR, TE , OL all fell on similar averages with RB, WR, TE having the larger variance - which means that a higher value should be placed on the better players in each group.
4. Defense - Lower average and less variance than offense which implies these positions are less valuable than offensive players and the value between higher/lower ranked players in the group should be a small delta.
5. DL has a high variance which means the best players have a significantly higher value than lower end DL.
6. Kicker and Punter are about the same value as DB!!!
If we were at complete parody, each team would average 411.26. Of course that is not the case because certain players contribute to higher and lower averages and....well - we don't have parody. :)
So for those who are trading based on the idea that RB is the "most" valuable position - don't forget QB, WR, and TE!!!! The numbers show that all 3 positions (RB, WR, TE) are similar value with QB being the most valuable of all!!!
Have a good holidays, and good luck to CSWS and TD in the SUPERBOWL!!!
