Franchise Player-latest date to assign?

Just remind us, when it comes to assigning our FP designation, what is the latest date we have to do that by?

i am assuming that this must be done prior to start of RFA, which would mean a date in early Jan 2008?

You can assign your Franchise Tag anytime, but you might not get the two main benifits if you wait too long.

That said, if you want salary increase protection for 2008, get it done before Stan rolls over the new year, usually some time the 1st week of January. Here is how it is defined in the rules: as early in January of a particular year that the system is reset to reflect player bonuses, contract year changes, etc. Stan usually gets it done it anywhere between January 2-7.

If you only want RFA protection......
February 1 of Calendar year. Restricted Free Agency Begins

So....... best to get it done no later than about Jan 1 or 2 for both.......
