Comments (pretend I'm Mel Kiper Jr.).
Reggie Bush was the obvious first choice for two reasons: he is the top pick in most leagues no matter what, and the Fighting Amish had McAllister on their roster already.
Leinert is a mild surprise at #2 since Kobe's Ballhogs 3 had two young starting QBs on their roster already and had Dominic Rhodes on their roster, I kind of thought Addai would go here. But the team is now one step closer to cornering the market on young left handed QBs.
Vince Young to the Fearless Warriors is not a shock. They basically have the Ravens QB depth chart on their team and that was a shelf life of 1-2 years. They could have gone with Huff, M. Williams, or Hawk and filled needs, buta young (no pun intended, seriously) QB was a need as well.
Addai is good pick here, DeAngelo Williams or Laurence Maroney would have been good as well. Stephen Jackson is no sure thing to play every game for the next 3-4 years, so a good backup is necessary. Could have picked Cutler and hedged their bets on the Denver QB situation (Plummer is on the Dawg Pound's roster), but that was probably a lesser priority since another (young) starting QB is on the roster (Grossman).
Dallas Morning Wood has a pretty solid team, so they were in a position to go with Best Player Available. Mario Williams was the top pick in the real NFL draft for a reason and with none of the team's DEs being very young, he makes for a good pick.
By the Bipolar Bears picking Vernon Davis they are trying to hedge their bets at the TE position. They are hoping that one of two highest picked TEs in the history of the draft pans out, because Winslow is already on the roster. I'm sure they would have loved Leinert to fall here, and if Davis had been gone, Huff would have been an option.
The Glass House Stone Throwers have a full complement of aging running backs and needed to get a young guy for the future. So they had to choose between Maroney and DeAngelo Williams, and Maroney was the decision. They could have use a top WR, but there is no Larry Fitzgerald in this draft. A young ILB is also a need, but there is no Urlacher, Ray Lewis, or even a Dan Morgan in this draft either.
Obvious choice at #8. This was the first team that really could use an elite OB, and that team picked A.J. Hawk. No brainer.
I have no comments about the next 5 picks, all good picks.
At pick 14 I have to say I'm not a big fan of Bobby Carpenter and I don't see how he fits in the 3-4 defense. He's a tweener for that defense. He's okay as OB in a 4-3, but in 3-4 I just don't see him a pass rusher which is what the OB does. For the 69 Firebirds case, I hope the Cowboys switch to a 4-3 in the near future. This would have been an ideal spot for the first DB to go. I would have picked Michael Huff.
At pick 15 I also take issue, with Jordan, Chambers, Steve Smith and Gates the TUNABOYS have enough skill players and since Moss projects as a #3 receiver their first pick would have been better spent on an OB like Wimbley or Lawson, or a DE like Hall. For a team named TUNABOYS the pick of a Giants #3 WR baffles me.
No comments on picks 9-13? Mel, that's not like you.

Fine, at #13, Huff was a possibility, but with only Reggie Wayne as a sure producer at WR/TE, Chad Jackson was a good pick in case Coles, Henry , Northctt, Jolley or Pollard don't come through (of which the Dessert Eaters need two to be productive and that is unlikely over the next couple of years).

Based on value Clemen and Moss are both reaches. I did not look at need.

i went with carpenter at 1.14
Ithink carpenter is a great fit in the 3-4 defense, but my knowledge is limited so i went with parcellsexperience instead of mine (sorry mel) also some other analysis from:
Vic Carucci's Analysis
Like his former fellow Ohio State linebacker (Hawk), Carpenter is an extremely talented player who doesn't merely rely on talent. He works hard to continually improve his skills. He's smart. And he is a natural leader. He looks like a perfect fit in Bill Parcells' defense and locker room
just to cover myself i also went for wimbly - i had expected to go WR here but they went too early and left me hangin, so i opted for arguably the best player available

Hmmm, wow you mean there weren't any quality Wide Receivers left???
Interesting.
I think Bobby Carpenter is a fine pick, and he will do just fine in a 3-4 Defense, he is a good well-rounded LB who can and will rush the passer, keep in mind that the new, young Doomsday D has a guy on the other side that will be pretty good as well, (Ware), and their D-Line is young and will be really good.
If you hadn't taken him, I would have, but after seeing both Chad Jackson and then my boy Carpenter go two picks right in front of my face, I felt like I could get the last quality WR in my opinion at this point before the quality dropped off and still was able to get two pretty good OLB's (Manny Lawson and Demeco Ryans)
I agree, Hali would have been nice, but I have a back-up plan for that position.
While I have 2 good Wr's, I needed depth here, and S. Moss may be the #3 wideout now, he won't be for long, and he's got a pretty decent young QB, with any luck they will stay and grow together, and have the potential to be pretty decent for years to come. (Hopefully most of you will still be around to witness this greatness)
I do my smack-talking on the field, I look forward to testing out my picks in the next several years... good luck to you all, and I look forward to seeing you on the field!!!
