Changing Franchise Player

If the franchise tag is placed on an RFA player, will that player be released if the tag is removed, or will he still be an RFA? The rules state he would be released, but I wasn't sure if that pertains to RFA's. Also, franchise tags can be placed as long as RFA hasn't started, correct? Thanks.

The player would be released, yes. Also, you are correct, you can put the tag on an RFA player up until RFA bidding starts.
