I needed DLine help and I think long will be a super high motor do what it takes to get the job done for a long time... hopefully I am not just buying into hype =)

Not sure based on past drafts if I went early but I needed someone good and didn't want to wait until the second round.

I'm actually a little bit surprised at our draft so far. Long going 3 wasn't "that" much of a shock, but seeing Gholston go right after him was a shock. I knew Mr Joe Bengals was going to have to go with a DE at some point, so I'm sure he was disappointed to see Long go that early, but you never know, maybe Harvey will be in a better situation in Jax. Allowing a few RB's to slide a few picks probably made a few owners smile. Matt Ryan at 10 seems like a pretty good pick for TD. It will be interesting to see the run on WR's and to see who goes before the other, being a deep draft for WR and all.

I've found that there normally isn't huge "reach" at EFS, it's more a matter of when YOU want them.

DL was targeted with the #8 pick, thinking Harvey would probably make it but really didn't figure Long would make it past five.

After those two DL, I had Forte, Smith, and Ryan listed in that order. K Smith and Forte both made a late jump on my draft board but I was still very tempted to take Ryan. I would have been happy with any of the three.

So far, out of 31 players I put on my draft board (for 5 picks this year) only four are gone! With no second round pick though, it will probably take a good beating over the next few days!

I think I wouldn't have been "as" shocked to see Gholston go that early if we knew he were going to be a DE, rather than LB. I guess he could still become a DE though

For Mr Joe Bengals to pick Harvey with his 1.5 pick and still to be able to land Felix Jones a little later, he's got to be happy

Long at #3 was a tiny reach, but not very much. I think 4-6 was good area for him and I think need allowed for WBU to reach slightly for him. That said, with need at RB also, Mendenhal would of been better pick.

I thought Gholston was an ok pick...I had him projected 5-7. He should line up OLB for NYJand be remain there for EFS. Alot of people see him has next Merriman/Ware type of DE/OLB hybrid coming out of college. So wasn't that big of a reach imo.

I feel D. Harvey at #5 is a big reach though. I think late 1st/ early 2nd is the earliest he should have came off board. He will be fighting for snaps with numerous other DL in JAX. But just as he was reached for in the NFL he was in EFS.

Mendenhall dropping to #6 is huge slip and Redzone got soooo lucky he fell into his lap. Thank the gods.

Anywhere between 7-10 seems to be the average for Forte and K. Smith. So that was not really shocking at all.

I was very happy to land M. Ryan at #10. He was a need for me and great value at that spot.

Overall no real huge surprises.

Biggest Reach Pick : D. Harvey
Best Value Pick: R. Mendenhal

You gotta think if you swap Mr Joe Bengals first 2 picks, that would seem about right. No? He reached a bit (because of need) on Harvey with his 1st pick but then was able to recover with Felix Jones on his 2nd selection. Even steven

Re Gholston. I don't see him near as good as Merriman or Ware because he has quite the learning curve ahead of him. The dude is RIPPED though. Quite the specimen. Who knows? He's obviously dedicated to his body. If he can show the same dedication to playing LB, maybe he can become a Merriman/Ware type

while I don't have the best of RB corps, I have a pretty decent bunch who are an injury away from being badass =)

That said, I thought DE was a lot more important for me than RB

With my recent pick of an WR, I saw the need after having traded away andre johnson and the recent 'issues' with chad johnson, to try to get someone who had a reliable QB -- so I went with the rams. I figure with his speed and bruce being gone, he should get the opportunity to start immediately... my hope at least.

Since the NFL draft I have wanted Gohlston thinking he would be a DE. As our draft neared I started to lean toward Long because I wasn't sure about Gohlston's status as a DE or Ob. I had Long as my first option and Gohlston #2. Once Long was off the board I thought I could take Gohlston and have him for either position and then catch Harvey at the #9 slot. I was quite surprised that he went fifth! In the end I am still short at DE but have a refurbished line backing core with Gohlston and Mayo. It will have to do.

the downside of not having a 3rd / 4th round pick -- having to pick someone a round too early

I knew he would be gone in the 5th when I got to pick again so I took a leap with the current open door at bronco's camp

Wow...just wow!

I obviously did not have OL Mike Pollak (Colts) valued high enough! I had planned to grab him with my 3.4 pick, but Joe Bengals snapped him up a full round earlier. What was a bigger surprise, to me any way, was the (successful) trade offer by los lobos!

With no second rounder, I'm waiting on the third round. Just as I figured, my board took a hit this round.

Interesting draft so far!

Funny you mention that -- I had him on my list of people to watch for dropping but based on past drafts I didn't foresee him going nearly as early as he did, but I doubt I would have spent either of my 2nd round picks [maybe my 2.10] -- although I do need Oline help. Hopefully some of my guys pick it up this year

That there was your basic "draft and trade" deal. I'm pretty confident that Lobos and Joe Bengals had already agreed to a trade and Lobos told Bengals to pick Pollak and then offer the trade. Not too bad a deal for both parties

you are correct.....the trade of draft picks was agreed before we ever got to the 2.5......once we did, I gave him my guy, he picked him and we then traded player for picks...

Round 3 is posted.

With my top three WRs gone in Round 2, it was time to pull the trigger on my #4. I don't like Bennett's QB situation but think he has an excellent opportunity to start and contribute earlier than some that will be taken sooner in other drafts. I didn't see this as a huge need pick for me, but I like this guy.

At the end of Round 3 I figured I might as well add some depth at DL, a position I did see as a need early on but couldn't really do anything about it. Happy to get Merling at 3.11 instead of reaching earlier. Might even have gotten him later, but didn't want to chance it.

Didn't see any real surpirses in this round and our draft is progressing pretty well! Round 4 is already halfway complete!

Round 4 is posted!

Now we're getting into the rounds where personal favorites come into play. Most of the "big dogs" and those projected to play a significant role in '08 are already gone. Time to build for the future!

With only one more pick in the 5th round in our '08 draft, I decided to add depth on my OL with a player who can fill a hole on a pretty good team...Ryan Clady, OL, Broncos

On to the FIFTH ROUND!

Round 5 complete!

And so is my 2008 drafting with Tim Hightower, RB, Cardinals. Somebody has to replace Edge eventually! LOL!

I'm pretty happy with the way the draft fell for me, got almost everyone I had planned on drafting.
