Black Attack
1. Darren McFadden, RB
6. Vernon Gholston, OLB
17. Brian Brohm, QB
28. Limas Sweed, WR
37. Jeff Otah, OT
38. Brandon Albert, OG
65. Steve Slaton, RB
81. Kendall Langford, DT
92. Bryan Smith, OLB
97. Chevis Jackson, CB
Synopsis: Had lots of high picks to do damage, but mostly chose to focus on the future. Perhaps only Gholston will have an immediate impact, but it's an excellent long-term strategy.
Best pick: Darren McFadden may not dominate this year, but he was the best talent in the draft.
Worst reach: Brian Brohm has no guarantees of starting within five years.
Swamp Dwellers
2. Jonathan Stewart, RB
4. Keith Rivers, OLB
11. Curtis Lofton, ILB
12. Jordan Dizon, ILB
14. James Hardy, WR
22. Mike Pollack, OG
35. Kenny Phillips, S
51. Ryan Torain, RB
83. Will Franklin, WR
Synopsis: As usual, Swamp thing had more than his share of first round picks and he made others pay, grabbing many of the players who will do the most damage this season and beyond. He broke the hearts of those looking to land ILBs, even though he goes to about 10 deep at the position - Lofton and Dizon probably won't see the field.
Best pick: Curtis Lofton because it stole him away from a competitor who would start him.
Worst Reach: Mike Pollack has been drafted this high in other leagues, but I don't think linemen should ever go in the second round, even if they play for the Colts.
Golden Smactalkers
3. Chris Long, DE
19. Beau Bell, ILB
43. John Carlson, TE
46. Eddie Royal, WR
50. Mario Manningham, WR
53. Brandon Flowers, CB
67. Gosder Cherilus, OT
69. Jamaal Charles, RB
75. Chris Ellis, DT
89. Andre Woodson, QB
99. Pat Sims, DT
Synopsis: Took a lot of fliers on some high risk/reward players (i.e. Mario Manningham, Gosder Cherilus, Andre Woodson) and was forced to trade up to get Bell when ILB options were dwindling. Bottom line, though, he added quite a few pieces to the roster.
Best pick: Chris Long will prove all his critics wrong and the position really fell off after this.
Worst Reach: Beau Bell was a reach he had to make, but he's not in the same class as Lofton.
Aquablues
5. Matt Ryan, QB
21. Chad Henne, QB
26. Phillip Wheeler, OLB
45. Dom Rogers-Cromartie, CB
76. Kentwan Balmer, DE
85. Terrence Wheatley, CB
101. Mike Hart, RB
Synopsis: Desperation at quarterback led to him spending his first and second rounders to try and fill the position. Hopefully that will take care of the problem. Traded Mike Hart for a future pick after the draft.
Best pick: Matt Ryan will be his starter right now.
Worst Reach: Phillip Wheeler probably could have been had in the third round, although with the run on linebackers in this draft ...
Jokers
7. Jerod Mayo, ILB
23. Quentin Groves, DE
49. Tyrell Johnson, S
55. Shawn Crable, OLB
63. Aqib Talib, CB
71. Sam Baker, OT
79. Trevor Laws, DT
87. Bo Ruud, OLB
103. Jermichael Finley, TE
107. Colt Brennan, QB
109. Marcus Harrison, DT
Synopsis: Lots of picks here. Clearly rebuilding the linebacker core was a focus, although a lot relies on whether New England will be starting rookies this season or not. Lots of decent value picks made up for not having a third rounder.
Best pick: I love Jermichael Finley in the seventh round. Huge steal that late.
Worst Reach: Think Quentin Groves will be in tough to earn a starting job anytime soon.
Muckers
8. Joe Flacco, QB
30. DeSean Jackson, WR
59. Earl Bennett, WR
62. Xavier Adibi, OLB
78. Thomas DeCoud, S
Synopsis: Short on picks, but he made some good value choices in the middle rounds. He obviously read the report that Joe Flacco is the next Carson Palmer.
Best pick: He made Earl Bennett, a potential Day 1 starter in Chicago, the 13th receiver taken. I know Sexy Rexy is throwing to him, but ....
Worst Reach: Has to be Flacco, who is extremely high risk/reward - could be the next Palmer or the next Boller.
Creekside Indians
9. Derrick Harvey, DE
44. Jerome Simpson, WR
Synopsis: With almost nothing to play with in this draft, he came out with only one top player and it may take Harvey awhile to earn a starting spot.
Best pick: Has to be Harvey, who, while not nearly as good as Long, has quite a bit of pass rushing potential
Worst Reach: Hmmmm ... tough choice, but we'll go with Simpson, who is somewhere in the mix for third-fourth-fifth receiver in Cinci ... unless Ocho sits out.
Arctic Invaders (OK this is me, but I'll tell you what I think of my draft and you can comment, if you like)
10. Rashard Mendenhall, RB
16. Dustin Keller, TE
29. Devin Thomas, WR
33. Calais Campbell, DE
52. Jake Long, OT
54. John David Booty, QB
70. DaJuan Morgan, S
Synopsis: I was doing backflips when Mendenhall fell to No. 10, especially after trading down from No. 6. Addressing my DE and QB concerns weren't slam dunks, but you can only get so much high-level talent.
Best pick: I love my top three choices, but Mendenhall takes the cake. I can afford to wait on him with Jamal Lewis as my starter.
Worst Reach: Calais Campbell. I'll admit this one, but I desperately needed a DE with upside and there wasn't much left by the third round.
Raven Maniacs
13. Matt Forte, RB
77. Jason Jones, DE
93. Jacob Hester, FB
110. Tim Hightower, RB
Synopsis: Could prove costly giving up so many high picks. Forte could be a good one, but may never see the field with about 10 RBs on the roster.
Best pick: Matt Forte was his only real pick with significant upside. With Benson gone, this looks like a steal at 13.
Worst Reach: Can't reasonbly call any of his other picks reaches.
Crazy Canucks
15. Kevin Smith, RB
31. Donnie Avery, WR
47. Glenn Dorsey, DT
48. Lawrence Jackson, DE
60. Fred Davis, TE
98. Taylor Mehlhaff, K
111. Cody Wallace, C
Synopsis: Went after his No. 1 need in the first round and appears to have a starter there. Landed the only rookie kicker and was able to wait until the seventh round to do it.
Best pick: Based on need, Kevin Smith was it. He could do some serious fantasy damage.
Worst Reach: Nothing terrible here; perhaps Dorsey just a bit, but the drop off of DTs after him was too great.
Lugheads
18. Dan Connor, OLB
27. Ryan Clady, OT
34. Phillip Merling, DE
41. Early Doucet, WR
66. Mike Jenkins, CB
82. Jonathan Goff, ILB
96. Chilo Rachal, OG
Synopsis: Really must hurt giving up the second overall pick, given the top end talent that could have been had there, but he did OK the rest of the way.
Best pick: In terms of need, Connor was a Godsend to his depleted LB corps, but I really like Early Doucet in the third round. He will be good someday.
Worst Reach: Again, the whole o-lineman in the second round thing. On the plus side, he beat the run on tackles by getting Clady this early.
Sack Exchange
20. Tavares Gooden, OLB
36. Ray Rice, RB
64. Harry Douglas, WR
68. Josh Johnson, QB
73. Geno Hayes, ILB
84. Lavelle Hawkins, WR
88. John Greco, OT
95. Jeremy Zuttah, OG
100. Andre Fluellen, DT
Synopsis: Lack of high picks a little costly as he was only really able to fill backup positions.
Best pick: Lots of fliers here, but I like Ray Rice and think he could be the Maurice Jones-Drew of the league this year.
Worst Reach: Tavares Gooden could be a functional starter someday. Probably a round too high, but then again, that run on linebackers was something to behold.
The Menaces
24. Felix Jones, RB
39. Jordy Nelson, WR
40. Sedrick Ellis, DT
61. Chris Williams, OT
104. Jacob Tamme, TE
108. Shawn Murphy, OT
Synopsis: Where did all of the commish's picks go? I think he started this draft with something like 15 picks, but did his share of wheelin' and dealin'. Didn't have enough high picks to make a huge impact on his roster.
Best pick: Jordy Nelson is a smart, hard-working football player. The only thing holding him back is Green Bay's depth.
Worst Reach: Sedrick Ellis is a monster in the weight-room, but will likely be asked to stop the run more often than rush the QB.
Reading Redskins
25. Chris Johnson, RB
42. Leodis McKelvin, CB
57. Duane Brown, OT
86. Tom Zbikowski, S
Synopsis: Did well with very few picks. Got fastest player in the draft and the best corner.
Best pick: McKelvin in the third round is pretty darn good.
Worst Reach: Tom Zbikowski probably wasn't drafted in every league on this site.
Greyriders
32. Malcolm Kelly, WR
56. Andre Caldwell, WR
58. Dexter Jackson, WR
80. Tracy Porter, CB
91. Patrick Lee, CB
102. Charles Godfrey, S
112. Terrell Thomas, CB
Synopsis: When you're defending champion, you usually don't have a lot of positions to address. He threw everything at two perceived weak spots in the lineup. Also drafted Mr. Irrelevant Terrell Thomas out of USC.
Best pick: It depends on which one of those three WRs pans out. They all have about an equal chance of doing something someday - probably in their third seasons.
Worst Reach: Kelly, maybe a bit, given his terrible combine performance.
The Munsters
72. Antoine Cason, CB
74. Cliff Avril, OLB
90. Brandon Carr, CB
94. Martellus Bennett, TE
105. Adrian Arrington, WR
106. Brad Cottam, TE
Synopsis: No pick until the fifth, I repeat, fifth round! Can't expect much out of a draft when that happens, but he picked up a few players with some potential.
Best pick: Cliff Avril at 74th overall was a pretty good steal, as was Martellus Bennett, who is only a Jason Witten rolled ankle away from contributing to one of the league's most dynamic offences.
Worst Reach: Reaches are more apparent when GMs have picks in the first four rounds. Nothing really glaring here.
Hope you enjoyed this and didn't get too offended ... I had fun.
Great write-up. I tend to agree with most of your analysis. I'll add a few comments. In general I'm with you in that a bad pick should really be one in the top 4 rounds. It's more of a crap shoot. Thanks for doing the initial write-up it's always a lot of fun to read the analysis from others and to comment on it.
Black Attack
1. Darren McFadden, RB
6. Vernon Gholston, OLB
17. Brian Brohm, QB
28. Limas Sweed, WR
37. Jeff Otah, OT
38. Brandon Albert, OG
65. Steve Slaton, RB
81. Kendall Langford, DT
92. Bryan Smith, OLB
97. Chevis Jackson, CB
Synopsis: Had lots of high picks to do damage, but mostly chose to focus on the future. Perhaps only Gholston will have an immediate impact, but it's an excellent long-term strategy.
Best pick: Darren McFadden may not dominate this year, but he was the best talent in the draft.
Worst reach: Brian Brohm has no guarantees of starting within five years.
---swampy--- I like Sweed as a good value pick in the late 2nd round. You're right about Brohm. I would have preferred Henne with the 17th pick over Brohm. Overall I really liked BA's draft this year.
---swampy--- Best pick is probably Lofton as you mentioned. I'd say my worse pick is potentially Hardy with his off the field issues. There was much angst in picking him. After devoting little time to my team last year, Pollack was drafted specifically to address need and get back to the title game. In general I agree that OLs should be avoided in the 1st two rounds unless you have good depth and the pick is a luxury.
Golden Smactalkers
3. Chris Long, DE
19. Beau Bell, ILB
43. John Carlson, TE
46. Eddie Royal, WR
50. Mario Manningham, WR
53. Brandon Flowers, CB
67. Gosder Cherilus, OT
69. Jamaal Charles, RB
75. Chris Ellis, DT
89. Andre Woodson, QB
99. Pat Sims, DT
Synopsis: Took a lot of fliers on some high risk/reward players (i.e. Mario Manningham, Gosder Cherilus, Andre Woodson) and was forced to trade up to get Bell when ILB options were dwindling. Bottom line, though, he added quite a few pieces to the roster.
Best pick: Chris Long will prove all his critics wrong and the position really fell off after this.
Worst Reach: Beau Bell was a reach he had to make, but he's not in the same class as Lofton.
---swampy--- I really like Flowers and Cherilus as value picks. I think both of them have a good chance to start for Smacktalkers and come cheaply. Bell typically went a round later in most drafts, but considering some a-hole (wait that was me) took both of the lbs he had targetted with this pick, then I can't blame him.
Aquablues
---swampy--- I liked Henne as blues best pick. He filled his biggest needs with youngsters. With any kind of look maybe he'll package one off for a playoff contending QB. I didn't care for the Balmer pick, but I can't really call it a bad pick considering where he was drafted.
Jokers
7. Jerod Mayo, ILB
23. Quentin Groves, DE
49. Tyrell Johnson, S
55. Shawn Crable, OLB
63. Aqib Talib, CB
71. Sam Baker, OT
79. Trevor Laws, DT
87. Bo Ruud, OLB
103. Jermichael Finley, TE
107. Colt Brennan, QB
109. Marcus Harrison, DT
Synopsis: Lots of picks here. Clearly rebuilding the linebacker core was a focus, although a lot relies on whether New England will be starting rookies this season or not. Lots of decent value picks made up for not having a third rounder.
Best pick: I love Jermichael Finley in the seventh round. Huge steal that late.
Worst Reach: Think Quentin Groves will be in tough to earn a starting job anytime soon.
---swampy--- I wasn't a big fan of Jokers draft. I didn't see much that will immediately help him and I thought that some of these guys were far from a lock for the future. For value I probably like db's Johnson and Talib, but I wasn't very high on Crable.
Muckers
---swampy--- Muckers clearly needed another QB so while I'd prefer Flacco later in the 1st round, I doubt he'd have gotten a decent QB by the time his pick came up again. My favorite pick is Jackson. I think he could be firecracker in Philly. I didn't see any bad picks other than I'd preferred he traded down to get Flacco.
---swampy--- Solid picks for what was available
---swampy--- Keller was a solid pick and should be a starter for Artic from day 1. I thought Booty could have been had 1-2 rounds later. I'd prefer to see him get someone with potential to start this year or next. Overall a solid draft.
---swampy--- Maniacs didn't have many picks but they got very good value in Forte and Jones is a potential sleeper. I prefer Jones over Kearse. I'm not too high on Hester, but the later picks are for taking sleepers anyway. Solid job for what he had.
Crazy Canucks
15. Kevin Smith, RB
31. Donnie Avery, WR
47. Glenn Dorsey, DT
48. Lawrence Jackson, DE
60. Fred Davis, TE
98. Taylor Mehlhaff, K
111. Cody Wallace, C
Synopsis: Went after his No. 1 need in the first round and appears to have a starter there. Landed the only rookie kicker and was able to wait until the seventh round to do it.
Best pick: Based on need, Kevin Smith was it. He could do some serious fantasy damage.
Worst Reach: Nothing terrible here; perhaps Dorsey just a bit, but the drop off of DTs after him was too great.
---swampy--- Simply put, good draft. The Canucks rarely have a bad draft and they did another good job this year. Smith and Avery were good picks, I didn't care for Dorsey but I generally don't have much for DTs until the 5th round or later.
Lugheads
---swampy--- Lugheads made a predraft trade giving up his 1.2 and a future pick to acquire Vince Young and WR Roy Williams. Given his needs at those two positions he probably got better value than he would have he were picking either of those positions in this draft. I thought Merling was good value and would have selected him myself if he had been available. I didn't care for the Clady pick in the 2nd round. I think he could have gotten comparable value by waiting around and filling a bigger need with his 2nd pick.
Sack Exchange
20. Tavares Gooden, OLB
36. Ray Rice, RB
64. Harry Douglas, WR
68. Josh Johnson, QB
73. Geno Hayes, ILB
84. Lavelle Hawkins, WR
88. John Greco, OT
95. Jeremy Zuttah, OG
100. Andre Fluellen, DT
Synopsis: Lack of high picks a little costly as he was only really able to fill backup positions.
Best pick: Lots of fliers here, but I like Ray Rice and think he could be the Maurice Jones-Drew of the league this year.
Worst Reach: Tavares Gooden could be a functional starter someday. Probably a round too high, but then again, that run on linebackers was something to behold.
---swampy--- I liked the Harry Douglas and Greco picks but personally would have gone with a different selection with the first couple of picks. Sack's magic 8 ball may be better than mine though :)
The Menaces
---swampy--- Chris williams was good value with the 61st pick. For the life of me I can't figure out why anyone would pick Felix Jones in the 1st round given Marion Barber is the #1 in Dallas. Menaces waited until the 2nd round to pick up FJ which I think is a better read on his value.
Reading Redskins
25. Chris Johnson, RB
42. Leodis McKelvin, CB
57. Duane Brown, OT
86. Tom Zbikowski, S
Synopsis: Did well with very few picks. Got fastest player in the draft and the best corner.
Best pick: McKelvin in the third round is pretty darn good.
Worst Reach: Tom Zbikowski probably wasn't drafted in every league on this site.
---swampy--- I don't see a bad pick here. Solid selections. I even like TZ this late in the draft.
Greyriders
---swampy--- If one of the three WRs selected turnes out to be a top 10 WR then I'll consider this a successful draft. I think Caldwell will be a bit player, but Kelly and Jackson could turn out to be servicable players.
---swampy--- I can't add anything here. You pretty much nailed it.
Hope you enjoyed this and didn't get too offended ... I had fun.
Man you did an awesome job of summing up the draft. I wish I had more than two picks so you could have evaluated mine more. But thats what some RFA bidding gets you.
Hey if you want to do it. It would be great to see team grades overall and by position.

I can do that again, but it won't be for awhile. Maybe in August or something - right before the season.
That will give me something to look forward to.
Beginning my 3rd year as owner of the indians I was curious to where exactly did all my 2008 draft picks go. So here it is -- the how's and why's of my 2008 original draft picks.
1st round -- My 1st round pick was traded to swampy before I had the team it was a blockbuster I recieved LaMont Jordan, Alex Smith, Carnell Williams, Odell Thurman, and a 2006 4th rounder. Swampy recieved a 2006 1st rounder, a 2008 1st rounder, Willis McGahee, Terrance Newman, and Charles Tillman.
2nd round -- RFA Marion Barber
3rd round -- Drafted Jerome Simpson
4th round -- Traded to Crazy Canucks for Mike Vaderjagt, this was another trade that occured before I had the team.
5th round -- RFA Greg Ellis
6th round -- RFA Todd McClure
7th round -- This pick went in a trade with the Menaces where I sent Jeff Backus and this 7th rounder for Tyjaun Hagler
Well, that is where all the picks went. Feel free to comment or do the same.

Looks like the previous owner left you some doozies.
I took over my team before the 2007 draft and certainly haven't been perfect running it, but in the spirit of damage left by previous owners, the worst one for me was losing a second round pick that year because my foster owner bid on Chris Naeole ... who is no longer on a team and sure as hell not on mine, either. I shook my head the moment I saw that.
