View Full Version : McNabb dropped

I really need an explanation on this:
We have had people and I mean multiple bids on guys like Jeff George, Jeff Garcia, Andrew Walter and McNabb gets dropped because he is hurt.... wtf
If you are quitting then just say so, but that makes no sense at all. Sometimes I just think this league is wack.

Please keep me informed! If this owner does not renew, I want to restore McNabb to that roster and remove any cap penalties. I also have McNabb in a league and I cannot think of any reason why I would consider dropping him.
This goes for any league, we have to protect these rosters if people are going to do this and then dump the team. I will also make a note of this transaction.

now, when i took over my very first EFS team a while back, i took over a POS team in lg 15 that had zero QBs and 1 RB coming off ACL surgery (edge james)and another that was being phased out/pretty much past his prime (stephen davis).
at the end of the first year i just outright CUT S. Davis!!
why would i do such a thing?
this team was seriously Cap strapped and s. Davis was costing me 17.323M dollars a year for 4 more years. yep, that's a 17. how the fluck did anyone bid that much, and for at least a 5 yr deal?
i don't know if that was the situation with mcnabb, i haven't had the time to check, but it could have been a money issue - although THAT early in the year to cut him (like when you can still put in waiver claims) is just crazy. if he was a high cap dollar victim, cut him when nobody can get him and you have a shot to bid on him in FA next offseason.

Mcnabb was making $9.000 so I do not think it was an outrageous cut. I will be very upset if Mcnabb gets taken off my roster being that he cleared waivers and everyone had the right to bid on him. I had to cut some good players to afford him so it would be very unfair to take him from me now. I did not make a waiver claim on him because 9 million was too much money so I think whoever cut him probably felt the same way.Mcnabb may not even be able to play until 2008.
Thanks,
Andy

I agree that you should not lose McNabb. If he was on my roster at 9.0+ I would have dropped his ass also.

i may have as well, just not when ANYONE could go get him off of the waiver wire or then still have time to bid on him in FA.
ah well. i would've bid pretty high for him if i would have had the time to even notice he was put on waivers. been really busy lately, and all these fuggin thursday games suck royal ass.

Don't see your point. He would have been UFA after the first of the year anyhow and he sure can't help anyone this year. As far as the WW, if anyone wanted to pick him up at over 9.0 it would have been ok with me. The 3.0 bid is risky. If he comes back next year at or near his previous skill level then it would be worth the bid, if he turns out to be another Culpepper then it would probably be a bad bid. However, taking chances is part of FF.

my point was that if i were to have had him at 9+M/yr. i would've waited to cut him before the end of the year (but after WW and FA bids were no longer allowed).
the reason for that is so i could have a chance at getting him the next offseason at a reduced rate (and still be saving $$ on him compared to the dead money from cutting him).
so, if you cut him this year, and he's making 9M, his cap hit would be 4.5M for a few days until the new year started. you'd then gain back another 10% of the original 9M, meaning he'd only cost 3.6M in dead money (saving you 5.4 from the year before - not counting his "raise"). and if you manage to nab mcnabb at 3M/yr in the offseason you're still saving yourself 2.4M/yr compared to his last contract.
a player like mcnabb is someone worth having at a high cost (not really 9M of a cost, but half that).
i don't know if i made my point clear enough... other than I'D RATHER HAVE MCNABB AT $5M/yr, THAN TO NOT HAVE HIM AT ALL (and he end up on someone elses roster that you'll have to face). that's why i would've waited until right before this season ended, that way NOBODY would have him right now and "I" (if i were the one to have cut him) would have a shot at him as well next year (similar to cutting a high priced vet only to renegotiate with him a few weeks later).
i do that all the time on EFS. some dude, may be a high priced/high profile player on my roster, with 2 more years... i may cut him before he has 1 yr left, with the intent of re-signing him in FA for a hellz-a-lot cheaper than i'd currently have him... AND, i could also have him for longer....
^^ that's one of the reasons i'm really pissed at EFS right now. the "season" wasn't even over yet for me in lg 23, hell, MNF had yet to be played, but i was "locked out" of viewing my team??!! now i've gotta pay right now in order to make CUTS FOR THIS YEAR!! doesn't make any sense.
ah well, just talking about football. it's all good, we all attack things differently.

Don't remember who cut him, but he could have bid on him if he so chose. I think your calculations are off.
With my roster (Brees, Young & Romo) I would not bid anywhere close to 5.0 for McNabb, even if I was sure he would start the season next year healthy. Even if I had less quality I would not bid 5.0 for a QB that probably will not be ready to go when the season starts next year and there is a strong possibility he will not play until very late in the season, if at all.

JUST THOUGHT I WOULD WEIGH IN ON THIS DEBATE NOW THAT I HAVE SOME FREE TIME. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS ANY WRONG PLAY GOING ON HERE. MCNABB HAD A HIGH SALARY AND GOT DROPPED. I WOULD HAVE BID ON HIM IF I HAD REALIZED HE HAD BEEN CUT. BUT I HAVE BEEN BUSY WITH LAW SCHOOL AND REALLY DID NOT HAVE TIME TO MESS WITH MY TEAM THIS YEAR. SO THAT IS ON ME AND ANY OWNERS WHO DIDN'T REALIZE THAT HE HAD BEEN CUT.
UNFORTUNATELY, IF ANYONE IS TO BLAME IT WOULD HAVE TO BE EFS AS THEY COULD MAKE THINGS LIKE THIS EASIER BY SENDING DAILY LISTS OF PLAYERS BEING CUT. AS SOMETIMES IT IS TO HARD TO KEEP UP WITH THE SITE 24/7.
THE PROBLEM WITH MCNABB PREDATES HIS RELEASE. I ACTUALLY WAS HIS OWNER LAST YEAR. HE CAME UP FOR FREE AGENCY AND THAT IS WHERE THE DIRTY POOL CAME INTO PLAY. THE PREVIOUS OWNER OF PANTHER'S TEAM, WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL YET IS NOW A WRITER FOR EFS, HAD NOT PAID FOR HIS NEXT YEAR BUT EFS LET HIM MAINTAIN HIS TEAM. KNOWING THAT HE WOULD NOT BE BACK HE RAN UP THE SALARY ON MY PLAYERS MCNABB AND WITTEN. AND I BELIEVE THAT PANTHER SUBSEQUENTLY GOT RID OF BOTH PLAYERS. ANDY LEVERAGED A BID OF 4+MILL ON WITTEN AND 9+MILL ON MCNABB WHO I HAD FRANCHISED. THIS OWNER, ANDY, KNEW HE WOULD NOT BE BACK AND DID THIS FOR UNDERHANDED REASONS AS HE KNEW HE WOULDN'T BE BACK.
SO THERE IS NO REASON TO BE UPSET WITH OWNERS WHO FIND A PLAYER OUT IN FREE AGENCY AND BID ON HIM. NOR CAN I BE ANGRY AT AN OWNER WHO CUTS A PLAYER WITH A HIGH PRICE TAG PROVIDED THEY HAVE LEGITIMATE REASONS FOR DOING SO. THE ONES TO BE UPSET WITH IS EFS FOR ALLOWING PEOPLE TO WREAK HAVOC ON ANOTHER'S ROSTER AND THEN TO SKIP OUT OF THE LEAGUE. THIS OWNER HAD A GRUDGE AGAINST ME AND TOOK IT OUT ON MY TEAM. NOW HE IS A WRITER FOR EFS AND PLAYS IN ANOTHER LEAGUE.
SORRY FOR THE RANT, BUT I JUST THOUGHT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW OF THE REAL TREACHERY.

Very interesting comments. I wondered how McNabb's salary got so high and now I know. What you describe is dirty pool for sure and if the owner had not renewed it makes it doubly bad.
I agree that cutting McNabb at 9.+ salary and a very serious injury was probably a wise decision. Also, I think many owners saw him on the WW and FA bidding(I knowI did)and could have bid on him if they had cap room and need.
It is always sad to see a stud go down and I hope he makes it all the way back.

for the record - i'm not upset in any way of anyone cutting anybody. hey, i missed out on my chance to bid on him when he cleared waivers. my fault for not staying on top of things. i can't blame anyone but myself.
as for EFS and a daily "who's been cut" list, that would be nice, but if they can't even get the PS bid, FA outbid notice emails to work (mine STILL do not work - that's how i've lost out on many a player this year in FA in all my leagues), how could they get a daily league-wide email of a transaction history to work?
GREAT IDEA, but i doubt it'll ever happen.

YEAH, MINE HASN'T WORKED IN FOREVER, EITHER. I NEVER KNOW IF ANYONE BIDS ON MY GUYS. IT'S PRETTY DISAPPOINTING. I USUALLY JUST HOPE I HAVEN'T LOST ANY OF MY GUYS.

Well screw this. As far as this underhanded bs by Andy, that's totally false. Hell, I really wanted him and Andy outbid me for him. I would have gladly paid 9 mill a year for him. As far as Casey's comments regarding Andy goes,Casey has some weird obsessive grudge against Andy. Owners in this league shouldn'tgive any credence to hiscomments. Andy was going to re-up with the league until some lunatic from EFS called Andy and was a complete jerk to him on the phone.
I've seen crazier contracts before. Just look at how high the bidsget when Mike Shanahan announces his flavor of the week rb. There have plenty of players whose contracts have been higher and they were of lesser quality than McNabb. The Panthers couldn't even be bothered to turn in a lineup for their last few weeks, this is an obvious sign of dismantling. I don't care about salary cap, YOU NEVER, EVER, CUT PLAYERS OF MCNABB'S CALIBUR!!!!!
Either way I really could care less. I am not going to renew for next season, and I will compete in a few other fantasy football leagues. I just don't have the time for three teams, and I have made promises to remain in the other two leagues for many years. However this turns out, I hope the decision made is in the best interest of the league. If McNabb is returned, then Mt. Vernon should be awarded back the players he cut. I enjoyed competing in this league and I have the upmost respect to Charlie, Andy (Mt. Vernon), my brother Gary, Walt, Greg, and Gavin. Best of luck to all of you.
Sincerely,
Brian Rickert
