Previously the maximum opening bid for RFA was maxed out at 3.0M for 5yrs. Since we have made adjustments to the salary cap, minimum bid in UFA and adjusted the salaries for rookie draft picks, it seems only natural to allow for larger opening bids for RFA.
The new maximum bid will be derived from the following calculation.
The new maximum will be [Rookie Max Salary] + [Team salary cap / Active roster cap] * 5. In most leagues, that'll come to $3.5M + ~$2.5M, or roughly $6M * 5 years. That will also be the maximum increment from the last bid.
For 2010 the
rookie max salary is 3.5M
team salary cap is 135M
active roster cap is 53
So the calc is (3.5M + (135M / 53)) = 6.04M with a max contract length of 5yrs.
WARNING: The old maximum was to prevent the unintentional 3.5M bid when .350 was the actual meant bid. Fat finger bids will not be reversed so double check your entries before you confirm your bid.
